Portumna Towns is just west of the River Shannon and north of the shores of Lough Derg and is home to the Portumna Golf Club. Consequently, Portumna is a popular tourist destination for outdoor enthusiasts including anglers, boaters and golfers. Portumna is also known for being the home of Portumna Castle which is open to the public.
Portumna is located between the Western and Midlands Regions of Ireland and serves as a good touring base to visit these areas. In addition to local attractions mentioned above, it is within a reasonable drive of the western attractions of Galway and Connemara, Limerick and Adare, Bunratty Castle, The Burren and Cliffs of Moher, as well as, those of the Midlands including Birr Castle and Monastic Site of Clonmacnoise.
