Have you ever dreamed of galloping along the beaches of Ireland? Some of the finest horse breeds in the world originate in Ireland. Characteristics of Irish horses include gentleness, versatility and stamina. The centres feature a variety of disciplines, which can accommodate almost any interest and skill level.

Experienced instructors can teach you how to ride with personal attention. Many horses and ponies are well trained, in indoor and outdoor environments and can accommodate all levels of riding. Centres offer varied settings for trekking, hacking, trail or cross-country ridding. Some centres are geared toward specific disciplines, such as, riding, stable management, horse training, show jumping, dressage and polo. While others offer equestrian science and language courses.

Selections of horses include the Connemara pony, the Irish Draught horse, and the Irish Cob horse. The Celts introduced Oriental stock to Ireland. The indigenous native stock is believed to contain Spanish and Arabian blood.

For centuries the Connemara pony was used as a farm and pack pony it is known for its agility and hardiness. The Irish Draught horse is an intelligent and powerful horse, with a gentle nature. This horse is a cross between the indigenous Irish mares and English Thoroughbreds. This horse was used as an all round workhorse on the farm. The Irish Cob is also a good all-purpose horse. The Cob is stocky, compact and powerful. They are known for their friendly dispositions and usually get along well with humans, as well as, other animals. They are most beautiful when in motion.
